490 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Short Treks
Location: J’Loni Mo’Bril’s Home
Timeline: MD17: 0900 hours

Max packed their bag with two bottles of water for the walk back to what used to be J’Loni Mo’Bri’s house. Max had petitioned to have the house transferred to him, so he could be closer to the horses. His previous house could then be used to house some of the incoming lower deck officers. So far, the petition was in waiting as there was no rush while they were meant to be at sea.

Coming up the stairs, Max checked his tricorder and there was already three incoming enemies bearing disruptors. Once they reached the door, Max shoved Dani through the wooden door and closed it behind him. Max reached for the pistol tucked into the waist of his pants. “Computer, emergency full power to housing shields and targeting sights,” he ordered. “Authorization Culver India 42-1292 Omega.”

A short blue flash was followed by the hum of the shields. He had two targets coming in directly. Looking around, he clocked the third outside, on the lower floor and testing the shields. He remembered Jack had told him the shields were safe except to those who knew where the weaknesses were. He knew he needed not to make the place a bloody mess and get Dani away from these bounty hunters.

Max tucked the gun back into the waist of his pants and opened the door. Finding Dani hiding just behind the kitchen cabinet, Max grabbed his arm and tapped his combadge, “Triton Seabase, this is Captain Culver. I need an emergency beam out for two.”

=/\= “Aye sir.” =/\= came a quick response.

Max felt the shiver of electricity down his spine that always came before the paralyzing feeling as the transporter locked your position before your atoms were torn apart and reassembled, in this case on the seabase.

Chief Kareen stepped forward. “Captain are you wearing an old Earth firearm.

Max nodded, reaching for the gun, tucked into his waist, unloaded the clip and the chamber and handed the three items to the chief. “It’s safely unloaded. Have security gather that and put it in the armory for me, please?”

Max turned to Dani. “You either talk to your father, or you stay here indefinitely. His people are working under a dead or alive bounty and based on the last few day, seems likely dead is preferred.”

“I will do what I can, Captain Culver,” Dani responded, seemingly annoyed and worried at the same time.

“I’ll talk to Commander Paxidor about you remaining on the base in the meantime. We have a better chance of keeping you safe here than in any Romulan city. To be honest, secreting you off planet may be best for your health.”

“I’ll solve my problems here, Captain. There will be no secret transports off the planet, sir.” He looked at Max with an angry, iron will.

“I’ll talk to Commander Paxidor about safety and quarters.”
